Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime

Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime's (JBWOL) mission is to inspire an entire generation and to create a cultural shift on how we view aging. JBWOL's belief is that growing older doesn’t mean you have to stop dreaming and living a life of purpose. By granting lifelong wishes to seniors in need, who have overcome tremendous challenges in their own lives, JBWOL is able to spread its inspirational stories of hope.

JBWOL’s core program is to make wishes come true for senior citizens in need. Most elderly men and women have something in their life that they have always wanted to do or see but, because the majority of their discretionary income and lifelong savings goes towards paying medical bills and other expenses, they are often not able to live out these dreams. The JBWOL wish fulfillment program aims to change that by creating opportunities to ensure that each of these very special wishes come true.

Wish Fulfillment Guidelines:

• Minimum age of 65
• Legal United States resident
• Must be able to demonstrate that you cannot fulfill this wish on your own
• Has not been convicted of a crime for sexual abuse, financial exploitation, physical/verbal abuse, or a crime against another person, business, or organization.
• Must be physically and psychologically capable of experiencing the wish

WWII VETERANS’ WISH OF A LIFETIME

A group of WWII & Korean War Veterans from Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village and Lifecare Alliance in Ohio had a wish to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. For the veterans, it was not just seeing the Memorial that was important — it was also being able to see the Memorial with their fellow survivors. They needed to do it together.

Veterans received a fantastic send off — complete with a band and police escort. Along the route to Washington, D.C., they stopped at several VFW’s to share a meal and discussion with other veterans. When the veterans arrived in Hagerstown, they were all treated with a great surprise. Each of them received gift bags filled with goodies from local stores and most importantly, each veteran received a thank you from a local middle school student. It was truly a warm welcome that touched their hearts.

Once they arrived in Washington, the veterans attended breakfast hosted by Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. The Congresswoman gave each veteran a flag in honor of his or her service to the country. Breakfast was followed by a tour of the capital with Representative John Boehner’s Office and then a donated lunch at Phillips Seafood Flagship Restaurant.

When the veterans arrived at the WWII Memorial there was a large crowd of tourists – all of which parted and applauded as the veterans stepped off of the bus. A ceremony was held for the veterans at the Memorial with speakers Major General Bob Neller from the Commandant of the Marines Office and Commander Kirk Lippold (Navy Retired), the Commander of the USS Cole.

For many of the veterans, it was the first, and the last time they will ever see the Memorial erected in their honor – but is a memory that will live in their hearts and in their minds forever.

On December 7, 2010 JBWOL aims to take 20+ Pearl Harbor Survivors – military and civilian to the USS Memorial to give them the opportunity to say goodbye to their colleagues they left behind and to give them the opportunity to be thanked for their service.

Pearl Harbor Survivors that are interested in this trip should contact JBWOL.
Please note the following guidelines:

• Pearl Harbor Survivor: Civilian or military
• Has NOT returned to Pearl Harbor or Hawaii
• Must meet the income guidelines and demonstrate that you cannot pay for your own trip
• Physically able to fly for over 5 hours (wheelchairs okay)
