OCTOBER 2008
BREAST CANCER
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Ladies, it’s time to get that mammogram. A mammogram is the single-most important detection tool for catching breast cancer early. Did you know that in Colorado you don’t need a referral from your doctor to get your mammogram? And the screening technology has come a long way.
And guys, don’t forget your yearly prostate exam. It’s one of the best forms of early detection. Many men are reluctant to get a prostate exam, however it’s very simple and takes only minutes.
Regular exercise can also help you reduce your risk of several types of cancer. Spend 30 minutes five times a week doing things like walking, swimming, hiking, or cycling. A healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables will also help because they contain cancer fighting antioxidants. And research your family history. Because several types of caner are genetic, knowing your family history can help you make more informed decisions.
